What does the checker compare my text against?
Published web sources and indexed documents. It returns the passages that match, with a link to where each match came from, so you can see the source rather than just a percentage.
Is this the same as Turnitin?
No. Turnitin also compares against its own private archive of student papers submitted to it, which no public tool has access to. If your institution uses Turnitin, treat our result as a way to catch problems early, not as a prediction of theirs.
What counts as plagiarism in the report?
A matching passage is just a match. Quoted material with a citation will show up as a match and be perfectly fine. The report gives you the overlap and the source, and you judge whether it’s properly credited.
Does it check code?
Yes, there’s a separate mode for code, which compares structure rather than only exact text. Renamed variables don’t hide a copied function.
